Opportunities From: Volunteers In Action

Low income seniors have the opportunity to apply for a monthly food box full of shelf stable meat, vegetables, fruit, grains, pasta, cereals, juice and other items. They will also receive a box of produce. 

Volunteers will check-in and load boxes into recipients cars. This opportunity occurs outside so volunteers should dress appropriately for the current conditions of that day. There is a building to rest in that is heated or air conditioned. Two volunteer positions check in recipients and/or help open doors or trunks. The other volunteers must be able to handle 30 lbs.

Meals On Wheels is a nutritious meal delivered to homebound seniors Monday thru Friday. This is also a wellness check and social interaction for the meal recipients.

Volunteers will pick up meals no earlier than 11:00 am and deliver to a specific list of addresses. Each route contains up to 10 meals. 

Volunteers must have their own vehicle. 

Training will be provided to all new volunteers.

Will help the Victim Advocate at the Barton County Attorney's Office make phone calls to victims whose cases have been closed and asking about a survey that was sent out to them. Also, will help go through and organize old files. Please Contact Camila Komarek at the Barton County Attorney's Office 620-793-1851. Some paperwork will need to be filled out. 

Great Bend Chamber of Commerce works with the community, pairing many programs including chamber gift certificates, events, business promotions, etc.

Volunteer will help to organize documents for archival purposes This position is short term to be completed as time allows but within a certain timeframe.

Arrive at 10:30 am.  Confirm Meals on Wheels delivery is in order; put Friendship meals in oven to remain warm; set out silverware, napkins, cups and glasses, prepare coffee, tea and water. Serve Friendship meals at 11:45 am.  After lunch, clear table and put dishes in dishwasher.  Prepare coffee for next day, dump trash, take money to bank, sweep floor, take out trash.  Instructions are posted on refrigerator.  Monday-Friday except for holidays, 10:30am to 2pm.

Arrive at 10:30am.  Answer phone, take reservations for Friendship meals, Meals on Wheels and transportation.  Call in meal orders for next day, create next day delivery route for Meals on Wheels drivers and provide next day schedule for transportation drivers.  List of duties are provided.  Monday-Friday except for holidays, 10:30am to 2pm.

Arrive between 10:50 and 11am.  Deliver meals to homebound local citizens.  Daily delivery list and instructions are provided.  Monday-Friday except for holidays.

Drive local citizens to various appointments and errands.  Retrieve transportation schedule from Senior Center the day prior by 2pm or pickup in mailbox behind senior center.  Monday-Friday except for holidays, 8 am to 5 pm.

Weekend AM Canine Care Specialists are responsible for AM dog care and cleaning on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Weekend AM Canine Care Specialists' duties include: letting out the dogs for outside time, cleaning kennels, feeding the dogs, and returning dogs to their indoor kennels with treats and toys. Canine Care Specialists can also walk dogs and play fetch with the dogs or just hug on them and love them too.

Assist chamber staff with office and event functions as needed.

The Barton "Boutique" collects donated items from the current Barton students and then gives those items away for free during the next school year.

Items include: Clothes, Bedding, Kitchen Utensils, and other Misc Dorm Items.

The volunteer will wash all the items and then set them up on display in the room located inside the Student Union.

Volunteer will help with miscellaneous tasks in the office including but not limited to answering phones, data entry, taking intakes, shredding, mailings and other.

Volunteers help with cashiering, organizing store racks and shelves, and sorting, cleaning, or processing donations in the back.
