The RSVP Medical Transportation program offers county citizens the opportunity to manage and follow through on their medical needs and appointments. The
area medical community has identified “Access to Care” as one of the top
priorities in our community.
As a volunteer, you are able to choose or pass on any volunteer transportation drive. The program encourages you to volunteer for at least one drive a month. Requirements are a clean motor vehicle record check, up-to-date insurance, and a Volunteers In Action volunteer. Volunteers use either their car or, for clients who require accessibility, a wheelchair-accessible van with a lift. Volunteers receive a 35-cent-per-mile gas voucher to use as needed.
Over 140 people utilize this vital program, and the personal
impact it has on patients is not only reported by the clients but also by their
physicians and care providers. Doctors are pleased to know that their patients can receive the follow-up care they need, which in turn helps keep them well and living in their homes. Family members feel assured and sometimes less burdened. For
some, it is a bit of respite; for others who live out of town, it is a great feeling to know mom, dad, or sibling will be able to get the medical care they
need. Our clients are relieved to have this part of their medical journey taken care of, and they often share how nice it is to visit with someone on the way up. Many of
our volunteers have made lasting relationships with these patients.
