Opportunities From: Volunteers In Action

Santas Around The World is a spectacular creation of artist Loretta Miller. Life size figurines depicting a Santa from different countries across the world.  Rosewood Foundation has created a beautiful environment to house the Santas in the same building where you can visit Santa.

Volunteers will man the desk, giving out information about the display and taking free will donations. Shifts are on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Santa's Around the World and Santa's House are located at the corner SW corner of Lakin and Main St., Great Bend, KS

This program helps homebound seniors stay healthy with fresh groceries. Clients call in orders to the Volunteer Coordinator for this program. Volunteers then come into the Volunteers In Action office, pickup the list and the Dillons Credit Card, head to the store to shop. When done, volunteer will call client with total and then drop off the groceries, pick up payment and bring back to Volunteers In Action office.

The shopping is usually done on Thursday or Friday but can be arranged for a different day if needed.

Will help the Victim Advocate at the Barton County Attorney's Office make phone calls to victims whose cases have been closed and asking about a survey that was sent out to them. Also, will help go through and organize old files. Please Contact Camila Komarek at the Barton County Attorney's Office 620-793-1851. Some paperwork will need to be filled out. 

Great Bend Chamber of Commerce works with the community, pairing many programs including chamber gift certificates, events, business promotions, etc.

Volunteer will help to organize documents for archival purposes This position is short term to be completed as time allows but within a certain timeframe.

Arrive at 10:30 am.  Confirm Meals on Wheels delivery is in order; put Friendship meals in oven to remain warm; set out silverware, napkins, cups and glasses, prepare coffee, tea and water. Serve Friendship meals at 11:45 am.  After lunch, clear table and put dishes in dishwasher.  Prepare coffee for next day, dump trash, take money to bank, sweep floor, take out trash.  Instructions are posted on refrigerator.  Monday-Friday except for holidays, 10:30am to 2pm.

Arrive at 10:30am.  Answer phone, take reservations for Friendship meals, Meals on Wheels and transportation.  Call in meal orders for next day, create next day delivery route for Meals on Wheels drivers and provide next day schedule for transportation drivers.  List of duties are provided.  Monday-Friday except for holidays, 10:30am to 2pm.

Arrive between 10:50 and 11am.  Deliver meals to homebound local citizens.  Daily delivery list and instructions are provided.  Monday-Friday except for holidays.

Drive local citizens to various appointments and errands.  Retrieve transportation schedule from Senior Center the day prior by 2pm or pickup in mailbox behind senior center.  Monday-Friday except for holidays, 8 am to 5 pm.

Hoisington Community Food Bank serves Hoisington and Northern Barton County as a temporary food source in times of emergency or crisis. 

Volunteers will help stock shelves, greet patrons and help pack boxes for patrons.

Weekend AM Canine Care Specialists are responsible for AM dog care and cleaning on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Weekend AM Canine Care Specialists' duties include: letting out the dogs for outside time, cleaning kennels, feeding the dogs, and returning dogs to their indoor kennels with treats and toys. Canine Care Specialists can also walk dogs and play fetch with the dogs or just hug on them and love them too.

Assist chamber staff with office and event functions as needed.

The Barton "Boutique" collects donated items from the current Barton students and then gives those items away for free during the next school year.

Items include: Clothes, Bedding, Kitchen Utensils, and other Misc Dorm Items.

The volunteer will wash all the items and then set them up on display in the room located inside the Student Union.

Volunteer will help with miscellaneous tasks in the office including but not limited to answering phones, data entry, taking intakes, shredding, mailings and other. 

With lots of precious littles in our care, providing them with healthy lunch and snacks throughout the day is a very important task! Our staff does a phenomenal job of making and distributing our meals to the classrooms, but are looking for some support in the afternoons to collect and put dishes away. With a commercial dishwasher at our disposal, this task can be accomplished fairly quickly with some spare hands to help!

Are you one who loves the opportunity to sit and rock a baby to sleep? Then this opportunity is for you! We are looking for "center grandparents" who would like the opportunity to help our teachers get our babies and toddlers ready for nap time! We provide the comfortable rocker and the infants, you come ready with the comforting snuggles. This person would help our teachers to rock our infants to sleep for nap time starting at noon each day. A KDHE background check is required to join us in the childcare facility. If this is an opportunity you're interested, we will work with you to get your background check processed.

Volunteers help with cashiering, organizing store racks and shelves, and sorting, cleaning, or processing donations in the back.
